Barium sulphate, also known as barite. It is an odorless, tasteless, colorless rhombohedral crystal or white amorphous powder. It is stable and insoluble in water, acid, alkali or organic solvents. In the medical field, barium sulphate is used in radiological examinations mainly because it can absorb X-rays in the gastrointestinal tract and make its contrast effect, so it is mainly used as a gastrointestinal contrast agent. For industial usage, , it is used as a filler for white pigments, paper and rubber.

Application

1. In the medical field, barium sulphate is used as a dual X-ray contrast agent. It is a high-density gastrointestinal contrast agent, which can be made into different ratios of suspensions for use alone, but is usually used together with low-density gas for the purpose of double contrast. It is commonly used for gastrointestinal imaging.

2. In paints application, barium sulfate is better than that of most other filling powders. It has the characteristics of low coagulation, low light dispersion and fine particles. It is especially suitable for pigment topcoats, varnishes, spray paints, etc., and has chemical resistance and weather resistance. It is inert, insoluble in organic solvents such as water, acid, alkali, etc., and its excellent gloss and particle fineness make the topcoat maintained during long-term exposure.Barium sulfate is recommended for topcoat, which can increase surface hardness and color stability.

3. In latex paints, Barium sulfate is known as "acid-resistant"latex paints. It has acid resistance even when exposed. The easy dispersion, optical rotation and fluidity of barium sulfate can increase its chemical properties.

4. The use of barium sulfate in powder coatings can improve its gloss, fluidity, filling and compatibility with various pigments.

5. In the application of pigments, barium sulfate is used as a gasket for titanium dioxide and pigments in plastics, which can reduce the amount of pigments added and save about 10% of the cost, and the light reflection can maintain the complete color of the pigments.

6. Barium sulfate is used as a filler in silicone rubber and rubber compound, which can increase the hardness of silicone rubber and reduce its elasticity.

7. In the application of printing inks, the low abrasion, high gloss and color stability of barium sulfate, low coagulation, and its easy fluidity make it suitable for high-quality printing inks.

8. Barium sulfate is used in the production of paper coatings. Its gloss and fluidity can be increased during introduction, such as art paper and medium-white transparent colored paper. The titanium dioxide part can be replaced by double barium sulfate without losing its gloss.

9. In the application of thermoplastics, the thermal conductivity and easy fluidity of barium sulfate can reduce its injection molding time, and barium sulfate can be used as a nucleating agent to improve its strength and thermal stability.
